The Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock of the National Assembly conducted an oversight visit to the Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC) on 3rd March 2026, as part of its constitutional mandate to review the management, administration, operations, and performance of institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.
The delegation was led by the Committee Chairperson, Dr. Mutunga John, alongside Vice Chairperson Brighton Yegon. The visit provided an opportunity for the committee to assess critical infrastructure supporting national livestock productivity.
During the tour, the committee inspected key facilities including the semen processing laboratory, the Liquid Nitrogen Plant, and the ongoing Embryo Transfer (ET) Plant. These facilities were highlighted as essential components in advancing modern livestock breeding and supporting the delivery of high-quality genetic materials to farmers across the country.
KAGRC was recognized for its central role in conserving, improving, and disseminating superior livestock genetics nationwide. Through the adoption of innovative reproductive technologies and continued strategic investment in infrastructure, the Centre demonstrated its commitment to enhancing milk and beef productivity.
The oversight visit underscored the importance of sustained government support and accountability in strengthening institutional capacity. KAGRC reaffirmed its dedication to improving farmer incomes and contributing to national food security through science-driven livestock development initiatives.
