On 30th June 2026, the Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC) Managing Director, Dr. Benadatte Misoi, joined the Principal Secretary, State Department for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, CBS, during a courtesy call at the Office of the Governor of Kirinyaga County, H.E. Hon. Anne Waiguru, EGH, and the launch and handover of 13 bulk milk coolers to dairy cooperatives across the county.
The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the dairy value chain in Kirinyaga County, where dairy farming remains a key economic activity and a major source of livelihoods for thousands of households. The milk coolers are expected to enhance milk handling, reduce post-harvest losses and improve the quality of milk delivered to the market.
Speaking during the event, leaders emphasized the Government’s commitment under the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) to increase dairy productivity, improve milk quality and expand the sector’s contribution to the national economy through value addition and export growth.
As the national institution mandated to provide quality animal genetics and breeding services, KAGRC continues to collaborate with county governments and stakeholders to transform dairy production through access to superior animal genetics. Through improved dairy breeds, KAGRC is enabling farmers to increase milk yields, strengthen herd productivity and improve household incomes.
