23rdโ24th September 2025, Mombasa โ The Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC) was honored to participate in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) Livestock Transformation Summit, held in Mombasa from 23rd to 24th September 2025. The summit was presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, and the Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke.
The high-level event brought together Governors and technical teams from 24 ASAL counties, alongside key stakeholders in Kenyaโs livestock value chain, to deliberate on transformative strategies aimed at building resilience and productivity in the livestock sector.
KAGRCโs delegation, led by Chairman Dr. Nuh Nassir and Managing Director Dr. Benadatte J. Misoi, actively participated in the discussions focused on policy reforms, breed improvement, rangeland restoration, and the implementation of a national livestock traceability system.
One of the summitโs key resolutions was the commitment to achieve an ambitious 80% national vaccination target by 2027, reinforcing Kenyaโs dedication to improving animal health and ensuring sustainable livestock production across the ASAL regions.
KAGRCโs participation reaffirmed its pivotal role in supporting genetic improvement and sustainable breeding programmes that are essential to achieving the sectorโs long-term transformation agenda.
KAGRC undertakes testing of Liquid Nitrogen containers for interested clients on request to determine their efficiency.
