2nd September 2025, Nairobi โ The Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC) was honored to host a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Eswatini, for a benchmarking visit focused on the Centreโs artificial insemination (AI) operations. The visit aimed to provide valuable insights as Eswatini prepares to establish artificial insemination centers for cattle and goats.
The delegationโs visit was part of the Eswatini Livestock Value Chain Development Project (ELVCDP), a four-year initiative (2023โ2027) implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary and Livestock Services (DVLS) under the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), with support from the European Union (EU). The project seeks to enhance the beef and goat value chains in Eswatini through improved breeding, productivity, and market linkages.
The benchmarking meeting at KAGRC was hosted by Dr. Roselyne Wambugu, Head of Extension Services, on behalf of the Managing Director, Dr. Benadatte J. Misoi, and attended by the Centreโs technical team. Participants also benefited from insightful presentations by Dr. J.F. Mubiru from the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre, Mr. Joshua Onono from the University of Nairobi, and representatives from the Sindroe Group.
This engagement provided a significant platform for knowledge exchange and underscored KAGRCโs role as a Centre of Excellence in animal genetics and reproductive technologies. The discussions paved the way for potential future partnerships aimed at strengthening livestock genetic improvement initiatives within the region.
