The Chairman of Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre, Nuh Nassir Abdi, hosted a high-level delegation from Tana River County led by Bura MP Yakub Adow on a familiarization tour aimed at strengthening livestock productivity through climate-resilient breeding solutions. The engagement focused on the adoption of Artificial Insemination (AI) technology to improve local livestock breeds through the introduction of superior genetics such as Boran, Sahiwal, and Magic 50โbreeds well suited for arid and semi-arid regions. Discussions also highlighted the strategic use of AI in Galla goat breeding to enhance productivity while preserving the resilience and adaptability of indigenous traits. The visit provided an opportunity for benchmarking and fostering partnerships to support sustainable livestock systems capable of withstanding climate change, particularly in drought-prone areas. The delegation included Abdallah J. Daleno, County Chief Officer for Climate Change Resilience, Energy & Natural Resources, Mombasa County; Dr. Adhan Shariff, Medical Officer; Sadam Ismail from Tana River County; Morowa Omar of Wenje Feedlot; alongside community elders and livestock keepers from Tana River County.
