In collaboration with Geneplus, KAGRC held an inseminatorsโ training in Uasin Gishu County, focusing on current trends in Assisted Reproductive Technologies, including Goat Artificial Insemination (AI), the use of sexed semen in livestock improvement, causes of AI failure in goats, cattle, bulls, and buck catalogue interpretation. The workshop brought together artificial insemination specialists from various counties, including Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Baringo, highlighting efforts in breed improvement across Kenya.
The training emphasized the role of AI in improving breeds and enhancing productivity. A central theme was KAGRCโs commitment to quality assurance, with trainers guiding AI service providers through the steps taken to ensure the highest quality semen was delivered from semen production to the farm through insemination. Additionally, the training addressed specific challenges faced by inseminators in the counties, offering practical solutions and support.
By providing access to superior animal genetics and empowering inseminators with the necessary skills, this initiative formed part of KAGRCโs strategies in last-mile management, aimed at boosting milk and meat production and improving the livelihoods of farmers. The Centre targets to undertake similar training sessions across all counties.
